Let’s Get Back to Basics

It’s easy to get caught up in how busy we are. While working at a dental office, it seems like it’s suddenly 5:30 and we wonder where the day went. Between a full schedule of patients, phones ringing, insurance issues, stock ordering, lab work, and all the moving parts required to run a practice, it’s easy to get caught up and forget about the patient experience. 

Sometimes we have to pause and get back to basics to realign and refocus. While it may seem counterintuitive, it can solve multiple hiccups. For example, if we pause and put ourselves in the patient’s shoes, what do they experience? What do they feel? What do they hear? And most importantly, what do they think when they leave your practice?

It may seem silly, but it never hurts to role play that experience in your office. Pretend to be one of your patients and start by walking into your waiting room. What is the experience you get? Continue through your office as if you were the patient and ask yourself: what do my patients see, hear and experience?

Our patient experience can often be a make-or-break moment on deciding to move forward with treatment. It’s vital to ensure our patients’ experience is as smooth and seamless as possible.
