A Deep Dive into Home Sleep Tests

When it comes to applying data from a home sleep test to your patient, it’s absolutely essential to consider these three things:

1. Clinical History

  • Clinical history is the most important step to being able to apply data to a patient.
  • Why did they take the sleep test?
  • What are their symptoms?

2. Medication History

  • Some medicine can negatively or positively impact sleep.
    • For example, if a patient is suffering from insomnia and takes beta blockers, that could be worsening the quality of their sleep, as one of the side effects of beta blockers is insomnia.

3. Sleep Environment

  • Are they in their typical sleep environment?
  • Are they in their usual time zone?
  • Are they sticking to their usual sleep schedule?
